'Tokyo Tribe' Editorial

Whilst looking for inspiration for my editorial look i came across this 'Tokyo Tribe' editorial shot by Koihiro Doi for VMAN magazine, where Asian models have been used to recreate a modern twist on  Japanese Samuri. I particularly love the eclectic styling , the layering of contrasting fabric and patterns. Although the hairstyling is minimal, its modern style brings the tribal look into the 21st century, balanced by the extremely detailed and intricate patterning on the face. The use of line and shape across the face is very striking and overall these shots have an overwhelming sense of warrior strength.

Although i am using a female model for my editorial shoot, these images have forced me to think about styling and the importance of the posture of the model in front of the camera to create a sense of presence. It has also made me think about how to get the balance of hair and the makeup right, as i want to use lot of colour and detail on the face i will think about minimising the  styling.
